At halftime of the 25th annual Tangerine Bowl, it may have appeared that the Rockets’ 22-game winning streak was on the line as they led William & Mary just 7-6.

But Toledo exploded for 33 second-half points and shut down Lou Holtz’s squad after the intermission, limiting the Tribe to just one fourth-quarter touchdown. William & Mary jumped out to a 6-0 lead as Todd Bushnell scored from 10 yards out with 54 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Toledo’s Emerson Cole then scored from one yard out early in the second quarter, and the two teams played to a draw until the half.

The Rockets came out blazing in the second half, scoring on their first four possessions to pull away from the upset-minded Tribe. Toledo churned out 326 rushing yards, paced by Cole, who carried the ball 25 times for 132 yards, and Tony Harris, who collected 101 yards on 13 carries. QB Chuck Ealey tallied 74 yards on 14 carries and was 12-of-22 passing for 128 yards.
