The Auburn Tigers mounted a second-half comeback to earn a 13-9 victory over Penn State in front of a sellout crowd of 66,334, the seventh-highest attended game in the bowl’s history.
Auburn’s Ronnie Brown ran for a pair of touchdowns, including a 17-yard game-winning run with just over two minutes left in the game. Brown, the game’s MVP, rushed for 184 yards on 37 carries. Penn State Quarterback Zack Mills was intercepted by Roderick Hood as the Nittany Lions were driving down the field with less than two minutes remaining in the game.
Penn State running back and Heisman finalist Larry Johnson was limited to 72 yards on 20 carries, while Mills completed just 8-of-24 passes for 67 yards on the day.
