Drew Tate hit split end Warren Holloway on a 56-yard touchdown pass on the final play of the game to give the Iowa Hawkeyes an incredible 30-25 win over LSU.
Trailing since the 12:42 mark of the first quarter, LSU cut the lead to 24-19 on Skyler Green’s 22-yard touchdown reception from JaMarcus Russell at the 8:21 mark of the fourth quarter. The Tigers would then take their first lead of the game with just 46 seconds remaining on Green’s three-yard touchdown reception. Starting from their own 29, Tate completed passes of 11 and nine yards to the Iowa 49, before a false start penalty set them back to the 44.
Despite having timeouts left, Iowa did not use them as officials started the game clock after the penalty was marked off. Tate took the snap as time was expiring and hit Holloway streaking down the right sideline between two LSU defenders for the game-winning score. It was Holloway’s only career touchdown.
