Wisconsin got strong offensive performances out of its offensive backfield to help upset then-No. 7 Auburn and send legendary head coach Barry Alvarez out with a win in his final game as the Badgers’ mentor.
Running back Brian Calhoun rushed for 213 yards, and QB John Stocco threw for 301 in the win to help the Badgers end their season with a 10-3 mark. Wisconsin jumped out to a 17-0 first-half lead, amassing 311 yards, and never looked back. The Tigers came into the game with the SEC’s top-ranked offense but were held to just 236 yards for the game.
They were, however, able to cut the score to 17-10 in the second half when Brandon Cox hit a leaping Courtney Taylor in the end zone two plays into the final quarter, but Calhoun — whose rushing effort was the second-best in the game’s history — burst for a 33-yard touchdown to quickly steal the momentum back for good.
