2024 Cheez-It Citrus Bowl Returns to New Year’s Day
The Cheez-It Citrus Bowl will return to its traditional New Year’s Day window in 2024. Florida Citrus Sports officials confirmed the news Wednesday as part of ESPN’s 2023-24 football bowl schedule release.
The 78th edition of the matchup, featuring top teams from the Southeastern and Big Ten Conferences, will be held at Camping World Stadium on Monday, Jan. 1, with a national broadcast scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on ABC. Forty-four of the previous 77 Citrus Bowl matchups have been held on New Year’s Day.
In last season’s Cheez-It Citrus Bowl—held on Jan. 2—No. 16 LSU defeated Purdue 63-7 in record-breaking fashion, as the Tigers set bowl marks for points scored (63), total yards (594) and margin of victory (56) in the win.
LSU, which opens the season in Orlando against Florida State in the Camping World Kickoff, is now tied with Georgia, Michigan, Florida, Penn State and Auburn with six all-time appearances in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl. Tennessee, Michigan and Georgia are tied for the all-time lead in Citrus Bowl wins with four each.
This postseason also marks the fourth straight year with Cheez-It as the title sponsor of an Orlando bowl game. No stranger to college football, America’s top snack cracker brand previously served as the title sponsor of the Cheez-It Bowl from 2020-22, then doubled up on the cheeziness with a pair of bowl partnerships last season.
The former Cheez-It Bowl, now known as the Pop-Tarts Bowl, features teams from the Atlantic Coast and Big 12 Conferences and will be played on Thursday, Dec. 28, at 5:45 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Tickets to both the 2023 Pop-Tarts Bowl and the 2024 Cheez-It Citrus Bowl are available now exclusively through Florida Citrus Sports and will go on sale to the public after teams are selected on Sunday, Dec. 3.
