After eight weeks of play, here are updated projections for the 71st Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl from around the college football media.
Mark Schlabach (ESPN): Wisconsin vs. Auburn
Brett McMurphy (ESPN): Florida State vs. Tennessee
Jerry Palm (CBSSports.com): Virginia Tech vs. Georgia
Bill Bender (Sporting News): Wisconsin vs. Florida
College Football News: Florida State vs. Auburn
Jason Kirk (SB Nation): Nebraska vs. LSU
Following Week 8, Wisconsin, Florida State and Auburn are the three favorites to visit Orlando with two projections each. The Badgers hold a slight 2-1-1 lead over the Tigers including a win in the 2006 edition of the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl in Barry Alvarez’s final game as UW head coach. The Tigers currently hold a 13-5 edge over the Seminoles; however, Florida State defeated Auburn in their most recent meeting at the 2014 BCS National Championship Game, 34-31.
Bill Bender (Sporting News) estimates Florida making a return appearance to face the Badgers in a first-time matchup. College Football News has the Seminoles squaring off against Tennessee in a rematch of the first BCS National Championship Game in 1999. The Volunteers won that matchup to even the all-time series at one win apiece.
SB Nation’s Jason Kirk has Nebraska and LSU meeting on New Year’s Eve this postseason. The two have not met since they squared off in three bowl games over a five-year span from 1983-87 with Nebraska winning all three. The Huskers hold a 5-0-1 advantage in the all-time series.
Jerry Palm (CBSSports.com) projects Virginia Tech and Georgia to meet in the Camping World Stadium. The Hokies and Bulldogs have met a total of three times with Georgia leading 2-1 in the all-time series. Their last meeting came in 2006 when Georgia defeated Virginia Tech 31-24 in the Chick-fil-A Bowl after outscoring the Hokies 18-3 during the final quarter.
