February 1, 1950

The fourth-annual Tangerine Bowl featured a thrilling matchup between the St. Vincent Bearcats and the Emory and Henry Wasps, which ended in a 7-6 score in favor of St. Vincent.

It was a defensive battle throughout the matchup, with the only scores coming in the second quarter. Fullback Don Henigan scored St. Vincent’s only touchdown of the game after a fourth-down score from the goal line. Emory and Henry bounced back after a four-yard pass from quarterback Chick Davis to end Bob Howard.

Quarterback Bill Pippin missed the first extra point try that would tie the game, but a penalty would give Emory and Henry another shot. Following the penalty, Pippin missed a second time, and a defensive stand through the remaining two quarters gave the Bearcats the win.

Henigan’s work on the ground and lone St. Vincent score led him to become the game’s MVP.
