The high-powered Houston Cougars used four second-quarter touchdowns to hand Miami its first bowl defeat, 49-21, in the 17th annual Tangerine Bowl.
Cougar quarterback Billy Roland, who completed 11-of-17 passes for 199 yards, was the game’s MVP. Houston’s Bill McMillan connected on a school-record seven extra-point tries and added a touchdown reception for 13 points on the day.
Joe Lopasky scored four TDs, including a 70-yard punt return, to lead the Cougars over Miami.
