Miami returned to the Tangerine Bowl with an unbeaten string of 22 games, including their 1973 Tangerine Bowl victory. 

The Redskins dominated Georgia for a 21-10 win. Behind the running of fullback Rob Carpenter and QB Sherman Smith, the 15th-ranked Redskins opened up a 21-3 lead before the half and left the game up to the nation’s top-ranked defense. 

Nose guard Brad Cousino led the Redskin defense, earning Most Valuable Lineman honors for his efforts.
