January 1, 1970

For the first time since 1958, Southern Mississippi returned to the Tangerine Bowl.

Missouri’s Bob Lucchesi booted four field goals and Bobby Meyer scored on a three-yard run, leading the Tigers to a 19-17 win over Southern Mississippi.

Golden Eagles’ quarterback Dave Sellers threw for a late score to speedster Louis Lipps to pull the Eagles within two, but Southern Miss fell short of the victory.
