January 1, 1993

The eighth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs recovered a fourth-quarter fumble by Ohio State and drove down the field for an 11-play, 80-yard drive to give Georgia a 21-14 victory in the first matchup between the SEC and Big Ten Conference in the Florida Citrus Bowl.

The game was billed as a showdown between Georgia’s Heisman Trophy finalist running back Garrison Hearst and Ohio State’s All-Big Ten performer Robert Smith. For the first time since the 1973 game, two running backs rushed for more than 100 yards. Hearst rushed for 163 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns to earn game MVP honors while Smith had 112 yards on 25 carries and two scores.
