Tennessee rolled over Michigan, 45-17, in the first meeting between the two schools as the Vols exploded for 503 yards of total offense.
Vols quarterback Casey Clausen threw for a career-high 393 yards on 26-of-34 completions, including three touchdown passes, and was named game MVP for his efforts. Clausen also ran for a pair of scores in the resounding defeat of Michigan. UT pulled out to a 17-0 lead before the Wolverines could get on the board, and entered halftime with a 28-10 advantage.
In Tennessee’s largest margin of victory for a bowl game, receiver Donte Stallworth caught eight passes for 119 yards and Jason Witten grabbed six catches for a career-high 125 yards. The Wolverines suffered their worst loss in 33 bowl appearances, and worst overall loss since a 1968 50-14 defeat to Ohio State.
Michigan receiver Marquise Walker caught five passes for 100 yards in the losing cause.
