East Texas State returned to the Tangerine Bowl in the same calendar year, defeating Missouri Valley, 26-7.
It was the Lions’ third victory in the bowl, giving them a 3-0-1 record in game history. The East Texas State defense held the nation’s leading rushing team to just 154 yards on the ground, in addition to scoring a pair of defensive touchdowns.
“Stumblin” Sam McCord was named the game’s MVP with 69 yards rushing and 111 yards passing.
