Capital One Bowl Extends Agreement With Big Ten Conference

Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan, President Tony Massey and Big Ten Conference Commissioner James E. Delany announced an extended partnership agreement for Orlando’s Capital One Bowl, maintaining the game’s traditional relationship through the 2019-20 season.

Under the extended agreement, the New Year’s Day Classic will select an eligible Big Ten team immediately after the conference’s participants in the Rose Bowl and/or College Football Playoff are identified, when the new system takes effect in the 2014-15 campaign.

“One of college football’s great traditions resides here in Central Florida,” said Florida Citrus Sports President Tony Massey. “To extend our agreement with a conference so rich in history and maintain a New Year’s Day timeslot continues a proud tradition that we started back on January 1, 1947.”

The bowl first entered into an agreement with the Big Ten for the 1992-93 season making it the conference’s second-longest bowl agreement behind only the Rose Bowl.

“We are excited to announce an extension with the Capital One Bowl, ensuring that Big Ten teams will continue to enjoy the great city of Orlando,” Delany said. “Over the years, the people of Orlando have welcomed Big Ten fans with open arms, whether travelling from across the country or among the many alumni in Central Florida. The return of the Capital One Bowl adds to a national bowl lineup and will give conference student-athletes another invaluable postseason opportunity.”

The Capital One Bowl continues its premiere New Year’s Day slot at 1:00 p.m. The 2015 edition of the game, the first under the extended contract, will also be played in a reconstructed Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium.

As part of the Big Ten’s agreement with the Discover Orange Bowl, when a Big Ten team is selected to play in South Florida, the bowl will have the top non-playoff selection among ACC teams, inclusive of Notre Dame, to appear in the Capital One Bowl.

The 2014 Capital One Bowl will be played on January 1, 2014. Priority seating is available through Florida Citrus Sports membership packages. For more information, visit www.FloridaCitrusSports.com or call 407.423.2476.
