Iowa, Tennessee to meet in 2024 Cheez-It Citrus Bowl Jan. 1 at Camping World Stadium
ORLANDO, Florida (Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023) — The Iowa Hawkeyes will play the Tennessee Volunteers in the 2024 Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan announced Sunday. The game will kick off at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 1, at Camping World Stadium and will air live on ABC.
The 17th-ranked Hawkeyes (10-3) and 21st-ranked Vols (8-4) and have met three times previously, with Tennessee holding a 2-1 all-time lead in the series. All three past meetings have come at a neutral site. The most recent matchup came in the 2015 TaxSlayer Bowl in Jacksonville, a 45-28 win for Tennessee.
Iowa is coming off a Big Ten Championship Game appearance Saturday night and will be playing in the Citrus Bowl for the second time in three seasons and the third time overall. Iowa lost 20-17 to Kentucky in the 2022 Vrbo Citrus Bowl and defeated LSU on New Year’s Day 2005 on a 56-yard touchdown pass on the game’s final play.
Tennessee will be making its sixth appearance, tied with Georgia, Michigan, Florida, Penn State, Auburn and LSU for most all-time. The Volunteers are 4-1 in their five previous Orlando bowl trips, with the most recent visit coming on New Year’s Day 2002.
