SEC Week Six Preview

No. 6 Georgia (3-1, 2-0 SEC) travels to Knoxville to take on SEC East rival, Tennessee (3-2, 0-1 SEC). The Bulldogs have survived a difficult opening stretch, surrendering only one loss despite playing three top ten teams thus far. QB Aaron Murray has 11 touchdown passes in his last three games and carries a perfect 3-0 mark against the Vols into this weekend’s matchup. Tennessee suffered a two-game losing streak to Oregon and Florida, but rebounded last weekend with a win over South Alabama.

No. 12 South Carolina (3-1, 1-1 SEC) plays host to Kentucky (1-3, 0-1 SEC) at Williams-Brice Stadium. The Gamecocks will be without starting QB Connor Shaw, who suffered an injury in the team’s win at UCF in week five. Backup QB Dylan Thompson is 2-0 as a starter, throwing for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in wins over East Carolina and Clemson last season. Kentucky is playing its third-straight ranked team after falling at home to Louisville and Florida.

No. 19 Florida (3-1, 2-0 SEC) goes for its ninth-straight win over Arkansas (3-2, 0-1 SEC) dating back to 1982. The Gators remain the only conference team (excluding new members, Missouri and Texas A&M) that Arkansas has not beaten since joining the SEC in 1990. Florida has rebounded from a loss at Miami in week two with wins against SEC East foes, Tennessee and Kentucky. Arkansas hung tight against Texas A&M, but fell, 45-33, at home to the Aggies last week.

No. 11 LSU (4-1, 1-1 SEC) faces its second-straight road test against Mississippi State (2-2, 0-1 SEC). The Tigers dropped their first game of the season last weekend in a back-and-forth contest at Georgia. QB Zach Mettenberger continued his strong start to the season, passing for 372 yards and three touchdowns. LSU will face a Mississippi State defense that has allowed less than 15 points per game through its first four contests. The Tigers have won 13-straight over the Bulldogs, the longest streak in series history.

Ole Miss (3-1, 1-1 SEC) travels to Auburn (3-1, 1-1 SEC) for a pivotal SEC West showdown. The Rebels are coming off a 25-0 defeat at No. 1 Alabama, while Auburn has had a bye week to regroup following a 35-21 loss at No. 11 LSU. Ole Miss snapped a three-game losing skid to Auburn with a home win in 2012.

Missouri (4-0) opens SEC play at Vanderbilt (3-2, 0-2 SEC). The Tigers went 4-0 in non-conference play for the first time since the 2009 season. Vanderbilt has dropped conference games to Ole Miss and South Carolina to open SEC play, but has never lost to Missouri in three previous meetings.

No. 1 Alabama (4-0, 2-0 SEC) takes a break from conference play to host Sun Belt foe Georgia State (0-4). Alabama pitched its first shutout of the season in week five, defeating Ole Miss at home, 25-0. The Crimson Tide last played Georgia State in 2010, defeating the Panthers, 63-7.
