Week 12 Big Ten & SEC Preview: Top-10 Clash In Columbus
In the twelfth week of the college football season, members of the Florida Citrus Sports Team Selection Committee are making visits throughout Big Ten and SEC country, meeting with fans across both conferences in advance of the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl on January 1.
#9 Michigan State at #3 Ohio State – 3:30 p.m. on ABC
Ohio State (10-0, 6-0 Big Ten) welcomes Michigan State (9-1, 5-1 Big Ten) for Senior Day in Columbus, with ESPN’s College Game Day also in town. The Buckeyes enter the game with the nation’s longest winning streak at 23 games. Ohio State and Michigan State are meeting for the 44th time. Ohio State leads the all-time series, 29-14, and has won nine of the last 11 meetings, including last year’s 49-37 win in East Lansing. Michigan State comes into the game scoring just over 30 points per game, but since week seven Ohio State has just given up 8.5 points per game, which is fewest in the FBS.
#15 LSU at #22 Ole Miss – 3:30 p.m. on CBS
LSU (7-2, 4-2 SEC) is looking for its 16th straight season of at least eight wins when they travel to Oxford to meet Ole Miss (7-3, 4-2) in a pivotal SEC West matchup. This game marks the 104th game between the Ole Miss Rebels and LSU Tigers, dating back to 1894. LSU holds a 59-40-4 advantage in the series, 9-7-1 in Oxford. LSU is 27-3 following a loss under Less Miles, though all three losses came to Arkansas, who defeated the Tigers last week. LSU running back Leonard Fournette is just three rushing TDs away from the LSU single-season record. Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell is looking for his sixth 100 yard receiving game in a row.
#20 Northwestern at #25 Wisconsin – 3:30 p.m. on BTN
Northwestern (8-2, 4-2 Big Ten) travels to Madison to face-off against Wisconsin (8-2, 5-1 Big Ten). Both teams enter the contest ranked for the first time since 1995. Wisconsin QB Joel Stave is looking to earn his 30th win as a Badger. That would match Brooks Bollinger as the winningest QB in school history. Northwestern comes into the game riding a three game winning streak while Wisconsin has won six straight. The Wildcats this season average just over 21 points per game but the Badgers have only given up 21 points or more just three times this season.
Mississippi State at Arkansas – 7:00 p.m. on ESPN
Mississippi State (7-3, 3-3 SEC) travels to Fayetteville to face a red-hot Arkansas (6-4, 4-2 SEC) team that is coming off wins against #18 Ole Miss and #9 LSU, both on the road. Last year Mississippi State was the No. 1 team in the country when they defeated Arkansas 17-10. The Bulldogs this year are only giving up an average of 18 points per game, but the last four games Arkansas is scoring over 50 points a game.
