Week 12 Big Ten & SEC Recap: Michigan State Upsets Ohio State, LSU Loses Third Straight

#9 Michigan State 17, #3 Ohio State 14

The Spartans (10-1, 6-1 Big Ten) upset the Buckeyes (10-1, 6-1 Big Ten) in the Horseshoe on Saturday, snapping Ohio State’s 23-game win streak. Heisman Trophy candidate Ezekiel Elliot mustered just 33 yards on 12 carries, as the Buckeye’s offense sputtered to 132 total yards, a low in the Urban Meyer era. Without star QB Conner Cook, the Spartans turned to junior QB Tyler O’Conner, who threw for 89 yards and a touchdown. The Michigan State rushing attack stepped up with eight different ball carriers racking up more than 200 rushing yards against the defending national champions.

#22 Ole Miss 38, #15 LSU 17

The Rebels (8-3, 5-2 SEC) upended the Tigers (7-3, 4-3 SEC) Saturday, despite giving up more than 500 yards of total offense. Tiger QB Brandon Harris threw for 324 yards and one score while the nation’s leading rusher Leonard Fournette gained 108 yards on the ground. However, the Rebel defense managed to deny Fournette a trip to the end zone for the first time all season. Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 81 yards and two scores on the ground.

#20 Northwestern 13, #25 Wisconsin 7

The Badgers (8-3, 5-2 Big Ten) fell to the Wildcats (9-2, 5-2 Big Ten) in front of a home crowd of 75,000. Wisconsin WB Joel Stave passed for 229 yards, but couldn’t find the end zone. The Northwestern defense was strong, holding off the Badgers at the goal-line to hold onto the victory, as well as posting five turnovers and five sacks. Wildcats’ RB Justin Jackson rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown, bringing his season total to 1,172 yards.
