Week 2 Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl Projections
After two weeks of play, here are updated projections for the 27th Russell Athletic Bowl from around the college football media.
Mark Schlabach (ESPN): Iowa vs. Tennessee
Brett McMurphy (ESPN): Wisconsin vs. Tennessee
Jerry Palm (CBSSports.com): Michigan State vs. Tennessee
Bill Bender (Sporting News): Iowa vs. Georgia
Pete Fiutak (Campus Insiders): Iowa vs. Ole Miss
Steve Lassan (Athlon Sports): Michigan State vs. Ole Miss
Iowa and Tennesee are the favorites to make it to Orlando from the Big Ten and SEC after two weeks of play. Michigan State and Ole Miss each received two projections from the group.
The projections see the Hawkeyes squaring up against Tennessee, Georgia and Ole Miss out of the SEC. Of the three, only the Volunteers have matched up with Iowa previously. Tennessee holds a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series after their 45-28 victory over the Hawkeyes in the 2015 Outback Bowl.
Iowa would be making their second trip to Orlando after winning an all-time classic on the final play of the 2005 installment against LSU. The Volunteers, with five previous bowl appearances in Orlando, are looking to become the first team to win five times in the game’s history as they currently sport a 4-1 record. Georgia earned the selection of Bill Bender (Sporting News) and would be making their seventh appearance in the bowl game while Ole Miss has never played in an Orlando bowl game.
The Spartans were projected to make their Orlando return by Jerry Palm (CBSSports.com) and Steve Lassan (Athlon Sports). It would be their first trip back since 2011. Wisconsin received its lone projection from Brett McMurphy (ESPN). This would be the Badgers fourth appearance in the game and first since 2014.
