After a weekend full of upsets in the Big Ten, it is very uncertain who will be coming to Orlando in January for the Capital One Bowl as four teams received votes. Over on the SEC side, three different teams received votes with South Carolina coming in as the narrow favorite over Texas A&M.
Wisconsin (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) has taken over as favorites to head to Orlando after only appearing in one projection a week ago. The Badgers outrushed Northwestern 286-44 and had two running backs top the 100-yard mark in their 35-6win over the Wildcats. Wisconsin hits the road this weekend to take on Illinois (3-2, 0-1 Big Ten).
Nebraska (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten) has emerged as a heavy contender a week after failing to appear in any projections. The Cornhuskers are coming off a 44-7 win over Purdue this past weekend. Nebraska got off to a fast start and scored the first 44 points of the game before surrendering a touchdown to Purdue with just 39 seconds remaining in the game. The Cornhuskers ran the ball for 251 yards and five touchdowns led by Ameer Abdullah and his 126 yards on the ground. Nebraska is idle this weekend before returning to action at Minnesota.
Michigan State (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten) enters the projections this week for the first time all season. The Spartans are coming off of a 42-28 victory over Indiana. Jeremy Langford rushed for 109 yards and three touchdowns in addition to catching an eleven yard touchdown pass in the win. Michigan State hosts Purdue this weekend.
Michigan (5-1, 1-1 Big Ten) fell from being the favorite last weekend to only appearing in one projection this weekend after a 43-40 overtime loss to Penn State. Devin Gardner threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns and added 121 yards on the ground in the loss for the Wolverines. Michigan will look to rebound this weekend as they welcome Indiana to the Big House.
Northwestern (4-2, 0-2 Big Ten), LSU (6-1, 3-1 SEC) and Florida (4-2, 3-1 SEC) dropped from the projections this week. The Wildcats dropped their second straight Big Ten game, 35-6, to Wisconsin. Northwestern returns home to host Minnesota (4-2, 0-2 Big Ten) this weekend. LSU defeated Florida 17-6 last weekend in a SEC cross-divisional rivalry. The Tigers hit the road to face Ole Miss (3-3, 1-3 SEC) and the Gators travel to Missouri (6-0, 2-0 SEC) this weekend.
