Michigan and Georgia are this weeks’ favorites to head to Orlando for the Capital One Bowl. Wisconsin is the only other Big Ten team to appear in a projection this week and Georgia received four of six total projections from the SEC.
Michigan (5-0, 1-0 Big Ten) emerged as heavy favorites this week to make the trip to Orlando following its, 42-13, win over Minnesota. The Wolverines used a balanced attack throwing for 235 yards and adding 113 on the ground to retain the “Little Brown Jug”. Michigan hits the road this weekend as they travel to Happy Valley to take on Penn State (3-2, 0-1 Big Ten).
Wisconsin (3-2, 1-1 Big Ten) remains Scout.com’s selection to head to Orlando despite being idle this past weekend. Wisconsin dropped a close game, 31-24, at Ohio State two weekends ago. The Badgers return home this weekend to take on Northwestern.
Georgia (4-1, 3-0 SEC) remained unbeaten in SEC play with a 34-31 overtime win over Tennessee this weekend. Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray threw a touchdown with five seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. In overtime, Tennessee fumbled what originally looked like a touchdown to give Georgia the opportunity to kick the game winning field goal. The Bulldogs return home to face Missouri (5-0, 1-0) in Athens this weekend.
Florida (4-1, 3-0 SEC) returned to the projections for the first time since week two. The Gators are coming off a 30-10 victory over visiting Arkansas. Florida scored 24 unanswered points in the third and fourth quarter to put away Arkansas who had jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Tyler Murphy threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns in the win. The Gators hit the road and head to LSU (5-1, 2-1 SEC) this weekend to face their first top 25 opponent of the season.
LSU took care of business against Mississippi State (2-3, 0-2 SEC), 59-26, before welcoming Florida to Death Valley this weekend. The Tigers were down 23-21 late in the first half before outscoring the Bulldogs 38-3 in the final 30:17 of the game. LSU running back Jeremy Hill rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns and his running mate Kenny Hilliard added three touchdowns of his own in the victory.
Northwestern (4-1, 0-1 Big Ten) gave Ohio State (6-0, 2-0 Big Ten) a fight in prime time before ultimately falling 40-30. The Wildcats hit the road to take on conference rival Wisconsin (3-2, 1-1 Big Ten) this weekend. Texas A&M (4-1, 1-1 SEC) had their first weekend off of the season this past weekend following a conference win over Arkansas. The Aggies return to action this weekend when they travel to Ole Miss (3-2, 1-2 SEC).
