Georgia Wins Barnburner Over Nebraska, 45-31

The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 45-31, in the 2013 Capital One Bowl. Quarterback Aaron Murray broke a 31-31 tie in the fourth quarter and led the Dawgs to victory with a record-setting passing performance. “I’m just really thankful for the victory,” said Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt after the game. “Very impressed with Coach Pelini’s team. They definitely were well prepared, played extremely hard.” It wasn’t the game either team expected, but the 59,712 in attendance at the […]

Nebraska’s Key To Victory: Pound The Rock

The Big Red can win the Capital One Bowl with a balanced diet of their three leading rushers that keeps Georgia on its heels and controls the time of possession. A healthy rushing attack gives the Blackshirts enough rest between drives and lets quarterback Taylor Martinez be the dual-threat that makes him so dangerous. Nebraska averages over 250 yards per game on the ground, good for eighth in the nation. Leading the way is sophomore sensation RB Ameer Abdullah with […]

Rex Burkhead Looking To Go Out On Top

“I’d like to go out with a bang.” Those were the words of Nebraska RB Rex Burkhead at today’s Capital One Bowl players and coordinators press conference. Tuesday’s matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs will be the final game of Burkhead’s college career. This season has been a trying one for the senior, having played just seven games due to injury. He is fully healthy now, and figures to be a key player for the Huskers run-heavy offense on Tuesday. His […]

The Big Red Arrives In Orlando

“What’s your room number, bro?” For millions of college students across the country, that question brings back fond memories of friendships formed and lifelong bonds built. Wednesday night at the Peabody Hotel, nearly a hundred Husker “bros” were asking each other the same question. Nebraska has arrived in Orlando. The lads from Lincoln left behind the subzero windchill of the Heartland for the warmth and sunshine of Central Florida and went to work almost immediately. Slipping unceremoniously through one of […]

Nebraska Aiming To Reverse Recent Bowl History

The stat trotted out most often during bowl season, regardless of the school, is a program’s record in bowls.  Whether or not the Huskers won the 1962 Gotham Bowl, a game played five years before Bo Pelini was even born, has no effect on this year’s game. But not all bowl history is relegated to trivia and tailgate trash talk. Recent bowl history, especially when the current players and coaches are involved, can indicate how the players might perform on […]

Huskers Looking For More Than Redemption In Orlando

Bo Pelini and the Nebraska Cornhuskers have been hearing a lot about how this year’s Capital One Bowl is about redemption. To a certain point, that’s true. It’s their opportunity to show that they’re the team that went 10-2 and played for a Big Ten Championship, not the team that Wisconsin soundly defeated in that same championship game. But a larger examination of the Nebraska program shows that so much more is riding on this game and this season. Pelini […]

Unit Breakdown: Nebraska Defense

Two things define Nebraska Cornhuskers football more than anything else: a strong defense and a strong running game. It is the backbone of Midwestern football, and something Nebraska does better than most, both in the Big Ten and around the country. Both were key to the Huskers 10-3 finish this season, and could be the reasons the Capital One Bowl trophy spends 2013 in Lincoln. As the game approaches, we’re taking a look back at the Huskers season on both […]

Nebraska Awards Recap

The Big Ten announced their All-Conference teams prior to bowl selection, so the news got lost in the shuffle. With the season over and the rest of the national awards handed out, it’s time to take a look at how Nebraska panned out in this year’s honors. The Huskers did not win any national awards this season, but cleaned up in All-Conference considerations. Here’s the full list of winners: First Team – Coaches – QB, Taylor Martinez – OG, Spencer […]
